Having pets is a wonderful thing. They are wonderful to have for so many reasons, but one potential downside is training them where to use the restroom. Sometimes our animals make mistakes and they leave urine stains on our nice carpets. Here are a variety of ways to get rid of these stains for good.

One of the methods is using old towels and paper napkins to soak up as much of the urine as possible. Continue blotting the area until it is only a little damp.

Lay a fresh set of old rags and paper towels over the contaminated area. After this, cover it with some newspaper. Stomp on the newspaper for at least a minute to bring up as much of the moisture as possible. When you are finished, the area you stepped on should hopefully be dry.

Continue to place wet towels in the area that your pet does its business, whether it be outside or in a litter box. Rinse this area with clean and cool water frequently, and remove as much of the water as you can each time you are using a rag or paper towel.

The above method is quite useful, but if you have pet stain removal, apply that to the affected area. Even though it may seem like the area might be mostly clean at this point after doing the above steps, there are probably still traces in the carpet that may lure your pet to do the same thing in the same spot. Using an enzymatic eliminator with help break down those nasty odor compounds, minimizing your pet’s desire for said spot.

Another solution that has been known to help is using vinegar solution. Start by filling a spray bottle with white vinegar, and spray the affected area and work it in with a scrub brush depending on the size of the urine stain. Go over this area with a steam cleaner or a wet vac for maximum cleaning potential.

Using baking soda or even cornstarch to get rid of the smell is also a very viable option, especially if you plan on having guests over at your house. Pour as much as it takes to fill over the area completely and allow it to soak for up to 24 hours.
